"I just recieved bad news from home is all, I'll get over it." He said, not wanting to elaborate since it would completely go against the trust his parents had for him to not tell others about how badly things are going in France, they made sure to keep it secret from everyone around them, to try and resolve the problem quickly

He changed in the locker room and put the letter in his pocket. It was stupid for them to send it to the school since he had to keep up with it all day and people did drop papers in hte halls, it would be bad if someone had bumped into him and he dropped that letter without realizing it

They continued to play basketball but some people decided to sit and watch, it was mostly those who's teams lost and were out
