Alice was reading in the living room when the explosion happened. She checked to see that Annabeth was okay and then called the fire department to tell them that it wasn't necessary for them to show up.

"Alice! I've had an epiphany!" Annabeth declared coming down the stairs inside and went out the door. Her face was black and the front half of her hair was black and singed, she was lucky she still had her eyebrows, well her whole face for that matter, and the front half of her shirt had random singed marks on it as well but it didn't bother her as she walked down the sidewalk.
"You have fun pursuing that." Alice said still reading as the door closed behind her friend.
