After losing there father to war and mother to sickness Merrik took the throne when he turned 22 and the kingdom flourished in ways it never had before. the army was strong and unmatched while the people were fed, taken care of, and overall happy and lived comfortable lives.
the people were worried about there kings lack of attention to having a wife and heir and they worried for the royal bloodline continuing or that they would be stuck with prince Zale is something was to happen to merrik.
while Merrik is a proper gentlemen and generous king Zale is seen as the opposite of his brother in almost every single way, over the years Merrik has done his best to tame his brother but has been unable to do so. as a last ditch effort he believed marriage would be the only way to tame his brother and sought out the perfect bride

personality: Zale is a party boy, womanizer, and overall just an egotistical dick. he uses his position to his advantage and really doesnt care too much about anything other than what makes him happy in the moment. He hates when he's compared to his ever so perfect brother and acts out just to make sure he isnt compared to him too much, over the years he's grown to do whatever he likes whenever he likes knowing he would be bailed out of a bad situation either by his position or by his brother. Zale spends most of his time in the party scene unless he's being forced to a social even by his brother and even then he spends most of his time sulking in the corner.
history: Growing up as the second prince was hard as a child as all the attention was on Merrik but when he got older he began to love it, he could do whatever he wanted and leave whenever he wanted and no one bothered him as he wasnt as important as merrik was but Zale didnt mind that at all. being able to go out, party, and explore the surface was better to him even though it caused many problems for his parents and brother he didnt see that as his problem. Zale may look sweet and handsome at first glance but most people just refer to him as an asshole after getting to know him better
