Altier sat lazily in a chair while his sister laid on a chase gazing into a small pool of water running her fingers through it creating small ripples
"We do this every year and they never give me anything I'd like so what do you see the point of this to be Calista?" He asked sitting back with an annoyed expression
She smiled at him "have faith dear brother maybe they did make a proper choice this year, I bet they would love a good harvest this rather than you sulking in anger like usual leaving them to almost starve"
He rolled his eyes walking over and sitting on the edge of the chase looking into the water
"They usually select and prepare them this hour but shall we keep it a surprise this year and not watch them until they bring them to the temple alter?" Calsista questioned recieving a shrug from her brother
"Do as you wish, they have one hour, any longer and I'll get angry"
Calista chuckled "oh no worries...we won't want that"

This year the choices were at a great risk but it was also believed that they had the best chance in being chosen for that reason instead of rejected. The two had actually both been eighteen for a good portion of the year but one being the best healer and botanist around as well as one of the best blacksmiths they had high hopes in being chosen, but due to their value to the people as well it would be even more devastating than ever if they were rejected.
Terra, the one chosen for Altier was nervous and scared, just as much for the people as for herself because if this didn't work she was one of the main reasons they didn't starve with her knack with plants in keeping them alive and revitalizing them quickly when the plagues passed and helping the sick who were affected including keeping the ones rejected comfortable and living just a little bit longer.
Keith was one of the best blacksmiths and would also be a hard hit for the people in terms of defense and fighting, though unlike Terra, he had a family himself, his mother who raised him mostly on her own and his two younger sisters. He was very caring and protective not only of them but also of any women and children he met as well as the elderly. He feared what would happen to them without him if he was rejected.
When they were brought to the alter they recognized one another, more in passing.

"An hour on the dot, let's see what theyve choosen for us shall we?" Calista said gently dipping the tip on her finger into the water revealing temple as well as the alter before them.
Altier sat up in interest as the image became clear looking at the nervous young women they offered him. "Well well isnt she a beauty"
Calista was just staring at the boy, gently drifting her eyes over him "they choose well they are both acceptable" she said standing, her dress flowing around her "Shall we? Do you like her?"
Altier nodded and raised a hand opening a sort of portal that filled the temple with a bright white light, one that only dimmed once they stepped through onto the alter.

They were taken aback by the light and hesitated before stepping up on the alter and through, hand in hand out of nervousness, no one had really been accepted before so no one knew what would even happen to them.

The light completely faded and Altier and Calista stood before them causing many gasps from the people causing them to all step back out of shock and fear immediately dropping to there knees out of respect for the gods that now stood before them
Altier wore his usual cold Expression while Calista had an inviting smile upon her face

"Looks as if weve frightened them, how adorable" calista said with a musical laugh
Altier said nothing as he stepped up taking a slow circle around Terra, inspecting her slowly. Those around them did not dare speak and just watched what stood before them. He stopped infront of her and gently took her chin tilting her head slightly so she had to look at him "I suppose you'll do, pretty for a mortal"

They separated when he started looking Terra over and stayed quiet. A relief passed over those in the room with them when he determined that she would be suitable and waited for Calista to make her decision.

His eyes flicked over to his sister as she walked up to Keith, she gently trailed her fingers down his bare arm "strong," she looked up at him a hand caressing his cheek "and handsome arent you?"
"I'm sure he will please you just fine calista" altier said growing impatient with his sister
"Now now have patience brother " she looked back to Keith flashing him a dazzling smile "I'm sure he will"

Keith's stomach flip flopped and he wasn't sure if it was due to her beauty or the things they were talking about. He was glad his family wasn't there, he didn't like the idea of them hearing the two talk about him as they were.

"Now, before we leave you are both allowed one request" altier said simply looking between the two of them "whatever it may be is your choice. If we decide to listen depends on the request"

"Really?" Keith asked as the two were surprised by it. "If that is the case then...please, I want my family to be safe. If I can't stay to protect them, I would like them to be protected and taken care of somehow."
Terra thought about it herself, but she did not have hope that what she wanted would be accepted.
"With all due respect, I don't think my request would be considered acceptable." She replied.

"I'll give them everything they need dont you worry, if anyone is to ever think to mean them any harm they will have a terrible fate" calista said gently sliding a hand down his arm again "does that please you?"
Altier raised an eyebrow in question "and what would that be? "

"Thank you, I am relieved to know that they will be alright." He replied with a small smile.
"For these people to no longer suffer famine and plague. They are good people and work very hard to try to please you, the don't deserve such severe punishment for as long as they have." She explained.
Like Terra, Keith shared a similar idea that such a large request wouldn't be taken seriously.

He chuckled darkly and grabbed her chin again "now that request little one you'll have to earn, I'm sure you can though"
"Alright, that's enough let's go altier im ready to go home" calista said messing with the gold necklace they had put around Keith's neck
He looked to his sister "very well..."
