The place was filled with all sorts of expensive formal wear and shoes and jewelry

"Then you're no better than he is and I don't care about what Rae may or may not think of you, I have no reason to trust you any further than she could throw you." He answered simply, he hoped no one ever had the misfortune of actually thinking Maverick cared about them, they would be in for a rude awakening, especially hoping that Rae wouldn't be someone who did.

"That's fine, the point I was getting at was don't go acting like Rae's friend. She sees the best in people and if you go leading her into a false sense that she can trust you and you hurt her or let her get hurt while you're acting as her watch dog then I will make you regret it. She is my family and just like your sister is to you no one is above her. I don't mind making friends with your sister myself and have no intentions in letting anything hurt her but as things stand if something happens to my family I will cease to care about yours and live to make you and your father regret meddling into our lives for the rest of yours." He replied. "Let's just get this shit over with and move on with our lives and once your father is done with us we can move on however this all ends up."
"Alright then." She nodded and noticed the two talking, though neither really appeared outwardly upset she could see the tension between them, being starkly reminded of the situation they were in. She didnt want to see Nico so miserable and wanted to do something about it.
