Sally finished signing the paperwork for the open apartment she had applied for and the landlord handed her the key. She picked up her backpack and went up the stairs of the small run-down building and walked down the hall to the door.

Carmon sat down against the wall in his apartment, watching the bed where the young girl slept clutching the dool. he knew he knew that face and those eyes but he couldn't place it just yet but she was badly hurt so he brought her to his apartment for her to rest

She stopped at her door, which was right next to his apartment, and unlocked it, discovering that the lock was weird and the door got stuck so she had to nearly throw her weight on the door the get it open. She got it open all the same but was afraid she had woken someone up or bothered someone. She went inside and closed the door behind her and flicked the light on

he got up when he heard that and went into the hall.
the elderly lady a crossed from him was out there to.
"did you hear something Carmon or is it just me getting old?" she asked and he gave her a little smile
"it's not just you Helen, go ahead and go back inside I'll figure it out."

She dropped her bag on the floor and sat on the futon in the living area

he looked at her door

She filled out various job applications and when she was finished she got up, grabbed her keys and locked the door behind her and left to go turn them in

She just stopped and looked at him with her usual blank expression and said, "I'm Sally, who are you?"

"your neighbor." he said simply before hearing the foor creak open
"your awake." he said looking at the little doe eyed girl who peeked out into the hallway. her brown curls all over the place
"whats going on?" she asked, her voice weak and soft
"nothing go back to sleep I'm coming." he said and she nodded before going back inside
Carmon looked at Sally "try to be quieter with the door, she needs to sleep."

She bit her lip to keep from responding, despite the fact that she was pretty far away she heard him clearly.

"Mae why are you not back in bed?" he said seeing she was up
"I'm hungry." she said quietly
he sighed and picked her up setting her on the counter
"I'll make you something then."

She went around town turning in applications and found an alleyway to take off in and flew high up above the clouds.
